Fajita Spice Blend
My husband and I love making our own spice blends and rubs, and lately we have been hooked on our homemade fajita spice blend; using it on fish, chicken, pork and beef! Sometimes…. we don’t even make fajitas with it!! It’s incredibly easy to make in a flash and adds so much flavour that I guarantee you will wonder why you ever purchased the processed blends from the store!
You can make your fajita spice blend, seal it in an air tight container and store it for months! Pull it out when you want awesome flavour added to grilled chicken, fish or shrimp, beef burgers, pork chops, and of course anytime you are making fajitas!
Fajita Spice Blend
First I gathered all of my herbs and spices I needed for the fajita spice blend: ancho and pasilla chiles (you can use just chili powder instead if you wish), paprika, garlic powder, cumin, coriander, oregano, jalapeno powder, salt and pepper. You may notice from the photo, or if you have been following me for a while, that I have slight addiction to Silk Road spices. I literally cannot go into this store and buy only what I came for; I always end up with more! As you can see from the photo I have a giant non-silk road oregano and garlic powder. Once I am done the oregano (in like 6 years, because who can use that much oregano, really?), I will pick up the Silk Road oregano. But the garlic powder, I am sticking to the giant Kirkland brand. I am sure Silk Road takes the garlic powder to another level, but honestly, for five bucks at Costco, and with the amount of garlic power we use (we go through one of these every 6 – 9 months!), I wouldn’t be able to afford the little Silk Road jars of garlic powder.
Anyway, enough about my herb and spice addiction… once I gathered all my ingredients, I measured each and put nicely into a bowl just so I could take a pretty picture for all of you! You at home do not need to layer your herbs and spices in this fashion. Just dump your measured spices into your container you are going to be storing it in, and mix.
You can store your fajita spice blend in an air tight container for up to three months and enjoy it on any kind of meat to add awesome flavour!
