How to Make Your Steak and Eggs Breakfast Amazing
Steak and eggs for breakfast is something I don’t have a lot of because I stick to my daily breakfast sandwich. And usually we have steak and eggs when we are using up left over steak from the night before and honestly in this household, that is a rarity. That is, we rarely have leftover steak! To make this recipe happen I had to plan accordingly. I had to buy a steak specifically for breakfast and make sure we didn’t eat it before! A challenge I was willing to accept and glad I did; this breakfast was awesome!
I love opportunities where I get to use my cast iron skillet. Often it is when we are camping, but sometimes I get to pull it out indoors, like for the skillet eggs and hash to go with my breakfast steak!
Steak and Eggs Hash Skillet
Start out by marinating the steak. I used a marinade of olive oil, salt, pepper and spices.
Let steak marinate while you prep the hash, for at least 30 minutes.
To make the hash, start by cutting the potatoes into cube, bite-sized pieces and set aside. Dice the onion and pepper, and mince the garlic, and slice the mushrooms – set vegetables aside.
Heat the cast iron skillet on the stove, and heat the olive oil and coconut oil. Add in the potatoes, onions and garlic and let cook while stirring until potatoes start to soften, about 20 minutes.
Add in the remaining vegetables and herbs and spices; stir to combine and let cook while stirring occasionally for about 7 – 10 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Fire up your grill.
Flatten the hash with a spatula to an even layer and using a spoon, make four shallow indents in the hash. Crack an egg into each of the the indents. Transfer cast iron skillet to the preheated oven and bake until egg whites set, about 15 minutes.
While the skillet hash is in the oven, grill your steak until your preferred doneness.
Serve grilled steak with baked eggs and hash, sprinkle smoked paprika or Aleppo chiles over top and enjoy with your favourite juice or coffee! And that’s it – amazing steak and eggs with skillet hash!
